£4m overseas property scam
The Co Londonderry man’s trial was set to get under way last month but is now expected to start within the next fortnight. Said Mr O’Kane: “I have been meeting with the court officials this week, but we still haven’t heard anything. “I hope the trial can get under way as soon as possible, because I want to be at my son’s wedding. Once we have the court date then it’s matter of getting this nightmare sorted out once and for all.
“I have said all along that I am out here fighting to get people their money back and this remains my goal.
“I miss home and I just want to return there as soon as possible.”
Ex-world boxing champion Eamonn Loughran, who lost thousands after receiving fake deeds for properties at the Golden Beach development, also hopes the matter is resolved this month.
Said the 37-year-old: “O’Kane is saying that Kubilay (O’Kane’s former business partner) has signed a statement exonerating him of any wrongdoing, but if this was the case then surely he would have been home before now. We have also been told that Kubilay is out on bail, so what does this mean for O’Kane?
“The whole thing stinks and people have a right to get their money back.
“I don’t wish O’Kane any ill-will because I’m not that type of person. I feel sorry for him and his family because of the mess they are in.”
Mr O’Kane has raised the issue with his local MP, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, in a bid to ensure that pressure is kept on the Turkish authorities to ensure he receives a fair trial.
He has been living in the resort of Bodrum since May after he was been banned from leaving Turkey while the matter was investigated. Source-Sunday Life
